Five British nationals released from detention in Afghanistan after ‘travelling against advice’

5 British nationals have been launched from detention in Afghanistan, the overseas secretary stated.

The 5 travelled to the south Asian nation in opposition to the recommendation of the International Workplace and had been detained by the Taliban.

Liz Truss stated the 5 would “quickly be reunited with their households” and thanked British diplomats for his or her function within the launch of the prisoners.

A International Workplace spokesperson stated the federal government “regrets this episode” and apologised on behalf of the households of these detained for “any breach of Afghan tradition, customs or legal guidelines”.

They stated: “These British nationals had no function within the UK authorities’s work in Afghanistan and travelled to Afghanistan in opposition to the UK authorities’s journey recommendation. This was a mistake.”

It was not instantly clear who the freed British nationals had been or once they had been detained by the Taliban however in February the International Workplace stated it was offering help to “a quantity” of British nationals being held in Afghanistan.
